More days doesn't always mean more parks

Adding days doesn't automatically mean adding another park. Some travellers want to see more places; others would rather stay longer in the Serengeti; others want to mix wildlife, culture and rest. There's no single right way to split the days. We help you decide based on what matters most to you.

That doesn't mean any combination works equally well. Distances, timing, season and how wildlife moves through the parks mean some routes make more sense than others, and that's exactly where Destiny Winners' knowledge of the ground adds real value.

If you've never been on safari

What is a game drive?

A game drive is a drive through a park's designated tracks, in a 4x4 vehicle, looking for wildlife in its natural habitat. It's the main activity of any safari day.

Your guide decides the route as you go, based on recent wildlife sightings, animal behaviour and the park's rules. There's no fixed route inside the park the way there would be on a standard tour. Wildlife is free-roaming: no safari, however experienced the guide, can guarantee specific sightings.

What to expect

What a day on safari looks like

No two safari days are exactly alike, but there's a shape that repeats.

Morning

An early start with your guide in the private vehicle, heading into the park or continuing the previous day's game drive.

Game drive

The middle of the day is spent driving through the park looking for wildlife, stopping to watch and photograph.

Meals

Depending on the day and the camp, lunch might be a picnic out in the bush or served back at the lodge.

Afternoon

More game drive, or a transfer to the next stop. Some days involve more driving than others.

Evening

Arrival at the lodge, dinner and rest before the next day.

Some days are spent almost entirely on game drive; others combine driving with covering ground; others include a cultural stop. That's part of what a private safari means. The pace adapts to the day, not the other way round.

Large elephant populations and herds alongside centuries-old baobabs, in a park that sees noticeably fewer visitors than the other big northern parks.
